Nanaimo Aboriginal Sports Initiative

The Nanaimo Aboriginal Sports Intitiative is new to Pacific Sport as of September 2016. The program formed as a result of a series of meetings with community groups about physical activity in Nanaimo. The stakeholder group for this Inititiative is Nanaimo Youth Services, Kwumut Lelum Child and Family Services, Snaw-Naw-Us First Nation, Snuneymuwx First Nation, Stz’uminus First Nation, Mid Island Metis Association, & Tillicum Lelum. This program and it is funded by Via Sport, Right to Play, & Kwumut Lelum

This Program provides support for community agencies and members to access training in coaching, officiating, and capacity building for physical activity. The Nanaimo Sport Initiative also works to resource share in the above areas, stakeholders programs, equipment as well as bring communities together. This program is new and quite open, it has and may continue to adapt based on the needs of the community.
