Early last month, PacificSport Vancouver Island staff paid a visit to the Aspengrove School in Lantzville, BC to see MYP PHE Teacher, Luke Holmes and his class who rented wheelchairs from PacificSport VI. We asked Luke a couple of questions regarding both his experience and expectations from this opportunity;

PSVI: What made you interested in having students using PSVI wheelchairs?

Luke: I the past, we have done an ‘Adaptive Games’ unit where students are exposed to different sports such as; sitting volleyball, goal ball, etc. We play those games throughout the year, but the use of wheelchairs engages our students in such an unique way that we are looking at diving deeper into our adaptive games unit.

PSVI: Is this the first year you have done this activity with your students?

Luke: No, this is the third year we have rented wheelchairs.

PSVI: How did you first know PacificSport rented wheelchairs?

Luke: I was an employee with PacificSport during my University days, so I had previous a connection with the organization. Plus, the Athletic Director has rented them in the past.

PSVI: How was the process obtaining the wheelchairs? Did you encounter any difficulties?

Luke: The process was quick and easy. Email responses were quick and staff answered all my questions. The wheelchairs were both dropped off and picked up on time. We were able to put them together efficiently. There were a few wheelchairs that were small for our older students, but for the most part, it was a smooth process.

PSVI: Would you rent wheelchairs from PacificSport again?

Luke: Yes, we plan on making this an annual rental so that each year we can continue to build off the experience.

PacificSport VI is happy to rent wheelchair to organizations that want to create an inclusive experience for its participants. If you are interested in knowing more about this offer. Email marketingvi@pacificsport.com with the subject Wheelchairs.
