The Vancouver Island Sport Alliance Summit will take place on Saturday November 2nd! We will be joined by 13 different Local Sport Organizations from around Vancouver Island for a day full of educational opportunities that will help their organizations grow in the future. Roddy Ward – Biathlon BC 

Roddy has coached high-performance, development and master athletes for 20-plus years. He has more than a decade of experience as a national team coach and as the director of high performance and athlete development with Biathlon Canada. Roddy has a master’s degree in coaching from the University of Victoria and has guided athletes to win medals at the World Cup and World Championships. Currently, Roddy is the General Manager of Biathlon BC and runs his own coaching business.

Roddy will speak about his experience with national team athletes and his own career path, and make the case, that with the right mindset, failure can be the greatest catalyst for achieving your goals.

Nick Bennett – Team Canada

Nicholas Bennett achieved a major international breakthrough in 2023. He won his first career world titles with victories in the men’s 200 freestyle S14 and 200 IM and added a silver medal in Manchester in the 100 breaststroke.

At the 2024 Paralympic Para swimming Trials, Bennett broke the world record in the 200 IM and achieved A standard in three events (200 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke).

Lauren Mitchell – Canucks Autism Network

With 4 years of experience supporting people on the Autism Spectrum in various recreational and social activities, I have dedicated myself to inclusion in sport, healthy childhood development, and programs for all. As a teacher, a sports coach, a support worker, and a facilitator, I have had the privilege of working with incredible people, teaching the community about support strategies, and building awareness about Autism.
I am passionate about creating spaces where all people feel safe, welcome, and understood and I look forward to sharing insights on inclusion in sport, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and various support strategies.
Kim Leming – ISPARC

Kim is Cree from Lac La Ronge, Saskatchewan, and has lived most of her life in BC.  Before moving to Vancouver Island, Kim graduated from Nicola Valley Institute of Technology with a Fish & Wildlife, Grassland, Range and Recreation Management diploma, post business certification in Natural Resources and Non-Profit Management.

With over 20 years experience working with Indigenous communities & organizations in the field of sport and recreation programming, Kim is proud to have been part of Team BC support staff for 2014 & 2017 NAIG and one of the first Team BC Indigenous female coaches to attend the 2015 Canada Winter Games in the sport of snowboarding.  Building on her extensive volunteer experience in sport & recreation development, Kim took on the lead role of Indigenous Snowboard Program at Canada Snowboard.
